Guantanamo Bay Migrant Operations Center – Guantanamo Bay Naval Air Station: Akima Infrastructure Protection (AIP), is currently hiring for unarmed surge Detention services for OCONUS detention services programs at Naval Air Station Guantanamo Bay. Unarmed Surge Detention Officers provide security patrols, access control, Detention related escort duties, traffic and parking control, and security and safety response and surveillance. While these are the primary duties, other Detention related duties may be assigned as needed and required. Detention Officers report to an immediate Supervisor who provides instruction and direction. Detention Supervisors report to the Admin Lieutenant or Deputy Project Manager.
This position will be a rotational position with projected deployments of 120 days on and 30 days off, which days off are unpaid.
THIS IS A DEPLOYMENT OVERSEAS. Anticipated period is estimated to last 36 to 48 months.
The Unarmed Surge Detention Officer provides for the care and custody of detained aliens in accordance with the operational policies, procedures, and processes to meet company and government contract requirements. Provides security, general, administrative, and technical support for assigned contract to include inventory and reporting. Maintains a high level of confidentiality for daily business decisions and operational functions. May require ability to obtain and maintain a secret clearance. Required to obtain a DHS ICE clearance. Conditions are austere within temporary open shared area housing. Access to medical facilities is minimal and limited to essential emergency care.
Contractor employees filling this position will be transported to and from your home of record.
Responsibilities
The duties of the Unarmed Surge Detention Officer include but are not limited to the following:
- Maintain the safety and security of all areas by taking actions as required by appropriate procedures and checklists.
- Take charge of post by securing and protecting personnel and property as described by the post orders until properly relieved. Comply with orders and instructions given.
- Report all violations of post orders.
- Give the alarm in case of disorder or emergency.
- Respond to emergencies and maintain order within the facility you are assigned
- Report unusual events that threaten the security of the center or endangers life or property.
- Take reasonable counteraction to save life and property or lessen danger. At the same time, maintain the security of post and remain alert for other possible violations during the emergency.
- Monitor entry and egress locations on the facility and scan badges of all personnel entering or exiting on designated posts.
- Conduct continuous physical surveillance in all areas of assigned responsibility.
- Ensure daily security operations of the facility are conducted within established policy and procedure.
- Respond to any critical incident within the facility.
- Conduct security related duties in austere environment conducting patrols in soft side and or any other designated facilities.
Qualifications
- Must be a U.S. Citizen.
- Must be at least 21 years of age.
- Must have a H.S. Diploma or GED.
- Must be willing to work nights, weekends, and holidays.
- Must be willing to work extended hours or days
- Must have one (1) years of experience in an armed or unarmed security/law enforcement related profession, either civilian or military. Successful service with an honorable discharge from the military or a four-year degree in a related field may be used to substitute for requirements on this contract.
- Must be able to read, speak, write, and understand the English language.
- Must have intermediate written English skills, including ability to prepare detailed written reports and fill out forms;
- Bi-Lingual ability to speak and understand Spanish is considered a positive factor;
- Must be able to pass all training and obtain all required certifications.
- Must be able to pass a company background investigation to include criminal, credit and driving record, and fingerprint checks.

Physical Demands
- Unarmed Surge Detention Officers will be exposed to a wide variety of environmental conditions including, but not limited to: working outdoors, excessive heat/cold, constant noise, slippery walking surfaces, uneven terrain, working around moving objects or vehicles and heavy equipment, shifts lasting 12 hours while working alone, frequent, close contact with potential threats or security risks, whether physical or verbal, and associated hazards which are inherent to working on an active military base and ongoing renovations and contraction.
- Unarmed Surge Detention Officers will be required to stand at a post for long periods of time, up to 4 hours without a break (for 12-hour shifts).
- Unarmed Surge Detention Officers will often have to walk long distances across camp detention areas to perform rounds to give breaks.
- Unarmed Surge Detention Officers will be required to work with a variety of different government agencies and be required to adapt to the environments accordingly.
