Job Description:

With more than 120 operations and approximately 20,000 employees worldwide, Precision Castparts Corp. is the spanet leader in manufacturing large, complex structural investment castings, airfoil castings, forged components, aerostructures and highly engineered, critical fasteners for aerospace applications. In addition, we are the leading producer of airfoil castings for the industrial gas turbine spanet. We also manufacture extruded seamless pipe, fittings, and forgings for power generation and oil & gas applications; commercial and military airframe aerostructures; and metal alloys and other materials for the casting and forging industries. With such critical applications, we insist on quality and dependability – not just in the materials and products we make, but in the people we recruit.

PCC is relentless in its dedication to being a high-quality, low-cost and on-time producer; delivering the highest value to its customers while continually pursuing strategic, profitable growth.

In 2016, Berkshire Hathaway, led by Chairman and CEO Warren E. Buffett, acquired Precision Castparts Corp.

JOB FUNCTION:

Evaluate each dimension of a casting and using the dimensional data, make a decision on the acceptance, rejection, or rework of that casting.

SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to read the Quality Engineering Specification (QES) and apply it to the dimensional inspection and adjustment of a casting.

  • A qualified dimensional inspector must be able to consistently evaluate each dimension of a casting. Using the dimensional data he/she makes a decision on the acceptance, rejection, or rework of that casting based on the requirement stated in the QES.

  • By accepting a part at dimensional inspection, the inspector accepts personal responsibility for the dimensional integrity of that part, here and at the customer.

  • Basic math skills are a necessity. Must be able to add and subtract positive and negative integers. A good understanding of measurements in fractions of an inch (tenths, hundredths, thousandths) is required. Must be able to read digital/mechanical dial indicators and computer generated tolerances.

  • A person working at manufacturing gage must possess a basic understanding in the use of hand tools required in the adjustment of castings to meet QES requirements. He/she must be able to adjust each part using several adjustment techniques: bowing, twisting, tilting, and “wrapping”. The part must be visually acceptable after adjustment. A certain amount of trailing edge straightening will be required to correct damaged castings.

  • Basic computer skills are required.

EDUCATION:

High school education.

EXPERIENCE:

Nine months OJT training.

INITIATIVE AND INGENUITY:

Normal initiative and ingenuity.

EFFORT:

Physical Requirements: Must be able to push and pull a minimum of 10 to 30 force/lbs (with proper lifting devices) in order to move gages weighing from 20-270 lbs. Must be able to move gages weighing from 20-270 lbs. from one location to another (push and pull) using a gage cart. This job also involves some heavy lifting (up to 30 lbs). Repetitive casting adjustment is required throughout the workday (push and pull).

RESPONSIBILITY:

Responsible for self. Train Gager I’s as required. Make sure parts meet quality standards. Must be willing to work daily overtime and weekend overtime as necessary.

JOB CONDITIONS:

Good working conditions, dusty, noisy.

THE ABOVE COVERS THE MOST SIGNIFICANT DUTIES, BUT DOES NOT EXCLUDE OTHER ASSIGNMENTS REQUIRING EQUIVALENT OR LESSER SKILLS.
