Position: Aircraft Paint Team Leader
Reports To: Director of Operations
Status: Non-Exempt, Hourly
Shift: Monday – Friday, 6:00 AM – 2:30 PM
Pay Range: $30 - $35 per hour
BASIC WORKER FUNCTION:
The Aircraft Paint Team Leader is responsible for guiding the daily operations of the aircraft paint team, ensuring all aircraft and components are prepared, painted, and finished to meet company standards, customer requirements, and regulatory compliance. Reporting to the Aircraft Paint Supervisor, you will coordinate workflow, assign tasks, enforce safety, and maintain high-quality and efficient paint operations.
GENERAL DESCRIPTION OF
TASKS:
- Lead daily paint shop activities including surface preparation, masking, priming, top coating, and detailing of aircraft and parts.
- Assign and monitor work to team members to meet production schedules and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with all safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements (e.g.,OSHA, EPA, FAA).
- Support and enforce proper use of tools, materials, and personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Inspect work in progress and upon completion for quality and adherence to specifications.
- Coordinate with the Supervisor on manpower planning, job priorities, and workflow adjustments.
- Train and mentor paint technicians and apprentices to improve skills and productivity.
- Maintain accurate records of labor, materials used, and job progress.
- Communicate effectively with other departments (maintenance, interiors, quality, etc.) to ensure smooth aircraft flow.
- Assist in troubleshooting paint or equipment issues and recommend process improvements.
- Ensure a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
- Follow all safety rules and procedures.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Strong knowledge of paint systems, detailing methods, touch-up techniques, and application.
- Ability to read and interpret layout drawings, paint schemes, and work instructions.
- Excellent attention to detail, with a focus on precision and quality.
- Strong organizational and communication skills. Proven ability to manage labor hours, schedules, and team performance.

QUALIFICATIONS
- Minimum 10 years of experience in automotive/aircraft paint application.
- High school diploma or GED preferred.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
- Ability to stand for long periods of time.
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs as needed.
- Good vision for inspecting small surface defects.
- Must be able to wear required PPE (gloves, safety glasses, etc.).
