Kenn Borek Air (KBA)is a diversified worldwide aircraft charter and leasing operation. TheKBAMaintenance team is currently seeking an individual who is looking to develop their skills as an Automotive/Aviation Paint Prep Technician. This entry-level full time position is based in Calgary, AB working Monday to Friday 7:30 am to 4:00 pm.
The Paint Prep Technician reports directly to the Paint Technician for guidance on tasks and priorities. The Paint Prepper is responsible for properly prepping the aircraft surface for painting.
Major Responsibilities of the Role:
- Keep all workshop areas, including materials and paint cabinets, clean, stocked, and organized at all times.
- Keep all tools and parts hanging hardware in good condition, immediately reporting any damaged, worn, or misused equipment.
- Use all provided tools, parts hanging hardware as intended, without deviating from their primary purpose.
- Conducting surface preparation including sanding, polishing, coating, and priming to ensure proper adhesion.
- Inspecting aircraft surfaces for defects, corrosion, or damage that may affect the paint application.
- Applying primers, fillers, and sealants to aircraft surfaces.
- Using scrapers, solvents, sandpaper, acids, and other refinishing products to strip, clean, and prep aircraft for exterior refinishing.
- Utilizing techniques such as sanding, stripping, etching, alodizing, cleaning, and masking to ensure smooth and uniform surfaces for paint adhesion.
- Adhere to all instructions related to priming, metal treating, seam sealing, and body filler as outlined in the product instructions available at the paint shop podium.
- Follow all the procedures outlined in the Paint Shop Procedures Manual, which is provided and maintained at the Paint Shop podium.
- Immediately report any defects or mistakes found during the prep process to the Paint Technician.
- Ensure you fully understand the tasks assigned before proceeding. If unsure, seek guidance from the Paint Technician or senior Paint Prep Technicians to avoid any damage to parts or aircraft.
- Collaborating with the paint team to ensure proper communication and coordination during the painting process.
- Documenting work processes and materials used, maintaining accurate records for each project.
- Notify the Paint Technician upon completion of tasks. The Paint Technician will inspect the work to ensure its done correctly.
- Report any deviations from paint shop procedures or safety violations immediately to the Paint Technician or Paint Department Manager.
- Follow safety protocols and use personal protective equipment (PPE). Report any damaged or worn safety gear immediately.
- Complete timesheets at the end of each workday to ensure timely payroll processing.
- Maintain a courteous and professional demeanor when interacting with clients, vendors, and colleagues to ensure smooth operations.
- Perform any additional duties as assigned by the Paint Technician or Paint Department Manager, even if they are not explicitly listed in this role description.
