Are you looking for an exciting opportunity? We are seeking a new Chief Pilot to join our team in San Diego, California. Our current Chief Pilot is ready to play golf and enjoy retirement, yet he will assist through the transition. The company's flight operations include a variety of missions such as Lidar, off-road races in Mexico, utility, charters, tours, flight training, filming, and flight operations in Baja Mexico. The Chief Pilot will be a member of the management team for our small company. Applicants must have a diversified flight background and management experience. The Chief Pilot applicant should have leadership skills, be team orientated, have good communication skills, and possess time management skills. Flexibility and adaptability are important strengths that the candidate must possess in order to maintain a positive, safe and enjoyable work environment.
 
The Chief Pilot applicant must be proficient with technology including using Microsoft Office, and be able to take a 14 CFR Part 135 check ride in an AStar AS350B2 and/or Bell 206LIII.
Job Requirements:
  • FAA commercial rotorcraft rating 
  • FAA certified flight instructor
  • Meet experience requirements under 14 CFR Part 119.71(d)(1)(2)
    • Have at least 3 years’ experience, within the past 6 years, as pilot in command of an aircraft operated under 14 CFR Parts 135, or;
    • With previous experience as a Chief Pilot, have at least 3 years’ experience as pilot in command of an aircraft operated under 14 CFR Part 135
  • Hold a current first or second-class medical certificate
  • Minimum 3000 hours TT Helicopter PIC
  • Required to take 14 CFR Part 135 check ride in AStar AS350 B2 and /or Bell 206L3
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
  • Must be able to use an iPad
Preferred Experience:
  • Prior experience as a Chief Pilot in an organization conducting 14 CFR Part 135 operations
  • Experience with 133 Operations
  • Experience overseeing Part 91 Robinson helicopters
  • Have FAA airline transport pilot certificate ATP
  • Experience in aviation operations in progressive positions of responsibility
  • Bachelor’s degree in Aviation or Safety Management
  • Experience with aviation flight training and standardization
  • Experience managing company records and reports
  • Prior experience as a check airman
Responsibilities:
  • Responsible for the training and standardization of the flight crew members
  • Prepares and maintains proficiency records, flight schedules, reports and correspondence pertaining to operations activities.
  • Ensures that each aircraft is properly supplied with all necessary documents including current navigational charts and current aircraft checklists.
  • Disseminates information to all crew members as pertains to routes, airports, and NOTAMS, navaids and Company policies, including ensuring each pilot has the current digital revision to the GOM installed on their iPad or iPhone.
  • Designates a check pilot to ensure all Company pilots conform to standard procedures as outlined in applicable FAA Regulations and Company policies, and to ensure that all pilots receive proficiency checks as required by the FAA and the Company.
  • Submits GOM revisions to FAA
  • Must be highly knowledgeable of the contents of the Shier Aviation Corporation General Operations Manual, Operations Specifications, and the Federal Aviation Regulations pertaining to the Company’s Operations.

  • Candidate must currently be authorized to work in the US (US Citizen or a valid Green Card)
  • Have a valid FAA commercial rotorcraft license
  • Must have favorable pre-hire background check
  • Pass FAA drug test
  • Have valid passport
  • Must have valid driver's license
