Job Description:
To perform Pilot-in-Command flight and related duties on VFR-equipped single-engine helicopters as required by Hydro One Networks Inc. This posting is a temporary/full-time (up to 18 months) role that may lead to permanent full-time work.
General Accountabilities:
Act as Pilot in Command as directed by the Operations Manager or delegate by:
- Being responsible for the operation and safety of the helicopter, and for the safety and security of all persons involved during flight operations.
- Having final authority to conduct or cancel scheduled flight operations.
- Ensuring that the helicopter is operated in accordance with the Aircraft Flight Manual and all applicable orders, standard operation procedures, Transport Canada regulations, Hydro One policies, and directives.
- Providing liaison with internal Hydro One lines of business in determining the flight operation of the helicopter to deliver the necessary expertise for helicopter-related work. This will be coordinated with the Operations Coordinator and the Chief Pilot.
- Taking required training courses as directed by the Chief Pilot, and Transport Canada policies (i.e. recurrent training on helicopter types and configurations AS350 B3, H-125)
- Demonstrate good judgment and decision-making ability.
- Providing safety briefings including instruction on aircraft safety/survival equipment location and techniques of use in the event of emergency.
- Thorough pre-job planning as well as conducting and participating in tailboard meetings.
- Providing instruction and mentorship to Hydro One lines of business staff on helicopter-approved work methods and occasionally acting as an instructor to deliver helicopter services training courses.
- Conducting a pre-flight inspection of the aircraft confirming serviceability and performing pre-flight duties such as documentation, weight and balance calculations, and flight planning as required
- Overseeing safe configuration of aircraft, i.e. external sling loads, and adherence to all up-weight load-limit specifications, and proper loading and securement of cargo including use of the basket.
- Maintaining a high standard of aircraft serviceability and cleanliness
- Recording defects and assisting air engineers in defect rectification carrying out ground run-ups and flight tests of repaired and post-maintenance aircraft as required.
- Conducting administrative tasks at obligatory intervals such as recording flight duty times, aircraft document revision control, and expense and timesheet management,
- Participating in the company Safety Management system by regularly reporting hazards and incidents when encountered and aiding in the corrective action follow-up process

Job Requirements:
- Grade 12 minimum education
- Valid Class 1 Aviation Medical Certificate
- Fully vaccinated against Covid-19
- Valid Commercial (or higher) Canadian pilot license with a minimum of 3,000 flight hours
- Minimum of 1500 hours combined experience on AS355 and AS350BA, B2, B3, B3e aircraft
- Restricted Radiotelephone Operator Licence
- Valid Passport or ability to acquire. No restrictions for cross-border travel.
- Transportation of Dangerous Goods Training an asset
- Recent Flying in the Wires Training is an asset
- Must be able to work in Canada
- Must possess valid Canadian CPL and Medical Certificate
Knowledge / Skill:
- Thorough knowledge of Canadian Air Regulations with significant experience flying in Canadian remote as well as high-density airspace.
- Extensive precision vertical reference external load experience is required.
- Experience conducting power line patrols, and knowledge of electrical distribution and transmission power maintenance and construction
- Solid aviation knowledge base including weather reporting, GPS and electronic mapping navigational techniques, weather minima, and aircraft radio communication.
- Comfortable working with modern electronic systems and document control.
- Must possess and demonstrate well-developed communication, public relations, and documentation writing skills.
- Ability to exercise sound judgment and decisiveness in stressful and emergency situations
- Must be able to work independently without constant supervision.
- Experienced in Class D and/or hoist operations an asset
- Survival and first aid training an asset

Work Location Information:
- Based at the Lake Simcoe Regional Airport (CYLS) with assignments throughout Ontario.
Salary: Based on Level 1 Pilot salary of $155,000 per year paid bi-weekly plus benefits. Crew house provided and expenses covered when traveling.
