Job Description:

As a Training Captain at Life Link III, you’ll be serving as a flight instructor, training pilot, and check airman, delivering ground and flight training, conducting FAA-required check rides, and ensuring strict compliance with aviation regulations and Life Link III’s General Operations Manual (GOM). You’ll oversee the quality of the training program, guide pilots through every stage of their development, and model Crew Resource Management principles to enhance crew performance and safety. In this role, you’ll foster a strong safety culture, support integrated team dynamics, and embody Life Link III’s mission and values—making a lasting impact on our air medical operations and the patients we serve.

Your Impact:

  • Responsible for thorough knowledge of Life Link III’s policies and procedures, the General Operations Manual (GOM), pilot training program, and compliance with Federal Aviation Regulations/Aeronautical information manuals (CFRs)
  • Maintains Check Airman and Flight/Ground Instructor status in aircraft as assigned by the Chief Pilot
  • Delivers initial, recurrent, and upgrade training for rotor wing pilots, maintaining compliance with Life Link III policies and FAA Part 135 regulations.
  • Serves as Check Airman and Instructor, providing expert ground and flight instruction, tracking attendance, and maintaining training records.
  • Conducts and assists in the development of: Basic Indoctrination Training, initial and recurrent ground training, initial and recurrent flight training, instrument training (ground and flight), and night vision goggles (NVG) training (ground and flight)
  • Forecasts training needs, coordinates training schedules and resources, adapting to 24/7 operational needs and responding to urgent training requirements.
  • Promotes safety culture, participates in risk assessments and SMS processes, and ensures operational compliance.
  • Updates training materials and SOPs, create scenario-based trainings integrating full operations team, collaborates on lessons learned, and supports standardized procedures.
  • Delivers CRM training to enhance communication, decision-making, and team dynamics.
  • Supports onboarding, and mentorship of pilots, providing feedback and participating in company initiatives.
  • Demonstrates flexibility to travel, adjust schedules, and conduct training during irregular hours for a 24/7/365 operation or as mission requirements dictate
  • Completes all reports and administrative requirements effectively and on-time.
Job Requirements:
  • Three years of experience as a part 135 Pilot in Command (PIC)
  • 2000 total flight hours or meets CAMTS equivalency
  • 2000 hours of turbine helicopter time
  • 1000 hours PIC in category
  • Helicopter flight experience within preceding 12 months
  • 50 hours of unaided nighttime flight experience
  • 100 hours of Night Vision Goggle (NVG) flight experience
  • 100 hours of Actual or Simulated instrument time in a helicopter
  • This requirement can be reduced to 50 hours in helicopter with 100 hours of actual instrument time in a fixed-wing wing
  • Current FAA Class I or II Medical Certificate
  • A Commercial Pilots Certificate in the rotor wing category with an instrument rating in category. Airline Transport Pilot (ATP) meets this requirement
  • Experience presenting in front of a group
  • Exceptional organizational and coordination skills with scheduling point of contact to ensure schedule reflects planned training
  • Excellent written and verbal skills with the ability to communicate effectively at all levels
  • Adapt to different adult learning styles
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, LMS software, etc., to create interactive training material
  • Strong interpersonal and leadership skills with the demonstrated ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with all 
  • Travel within Life Link III’s service area and as operations require

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Previous Check Airman experience
  • Current Certified Flight Instructor (CFI)
  • 500 hours of flight instruction given
  • Airline Transport Pilot Certification (ATP)
  • Night Vision Goggle (NVG) training experience as an instructor
  • CRM/AMRM and Human Factors training
  • AW119 experience
