Job Description:
  • Integration, test, and remote piloting of Small UAS.

  • Working with both remote control and autopilot flight is required.

  • Well versed in current and upcoming technology trends, fabrication techniques, and state-of-the-art SUAS hardware and software systems.

  • Remote piloting skills are a must; the ideal candidate will have an interdisciplinary background and passion for advancing the capabilities of Small UAS.

  • Plan SUAS test events, from TEMP to detailed test cards.

  • Conduct flight readiness reviews.

  • Ensure regulatory compliance, and adherence to test and engineering standards, and manage logistics for local and deployed test operations.

  • Support the fabrication and integration of SUAS vehicles, ground stations, and GSE. Select COTS parts; modify or fabricate custom parts; assemble and integrate aircraft system.

  • Obtain all necessary flight authorizations, including FAA or other government authorizations as applicable.

  • Conduct flight tests as a Remote Pilot, Flight Test Director, and/or another crew member.

  • Maintain test discipline and rigor during operations, as calibrated to the nature of the test event.

  • Lead post-flight briefings, review flight test results, write test reports, and work with the engineering teams to incorporate system improvements based on test results.

  • Prepare and conduct training for internal and customer flight crews.

  • Manage flight test operation facilities, equipment, and test assets.

  • Participate in configuration control decisions and equipment anomaly investigations.

  • Travel to CONUS and OCONUS locations to perform flight operations, training, and field service activities.

  • Effectively communicate with customers, both civilian and military, in order to coordinate and execute complex SUAS missions in high operation-tempo environments.

  • Understand customer issues and perspectives; Be the customer’s advocate to the engineering team.

Job Requirements:
  • 3+ years of professional experience operating Small UAS or equivalent systems.
  • Part 107 license for commercial SUAS operations.

  • Hands-on experience assembling SUAS type vehicles, and conducting lab or bench tests.

  • Experience integrating, tuning and troubleshooting SUAS flight control autopilots, RC controllers and flight software.

  • Experience integrating cameras, sensors, payloads, and other aircraft systems.

  • Experienced RC pilot flying both fixed-wing and multi-rotor aircraft is desired.

  • Hands-on experience working with machine shops, prototyping manufacturing techniques such as 3D printing and laser cutting, selecting hardware and avionics components, and integrating propulsion systems is desired.

  • Experience with the design and manufacture of composite parts is desired.

  • Verbal and written communication skills; ability to communicate test requirements and results

  • Proficiency with MS Office for presentations and reports.

  • Experience programmings SUAS flight control software such as PX4 or Micropilot

  • Experience with SUAS and/or RC simulation software; Experience with GPS including RTK/PPK

  • Experience with denied environment operations; Experience debugging electronics.

Desired Requirements:

  • CATIA and/or SolidWorks proficiency; MATLAB experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Electrical, or Aerospace Engineering

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work at local and remote test fields, often with minimal facilities, potentially during non-standard business hours.

  • Ability to travel for CONUS deployments to participate in test campaigns and customer operations.

  • Ability to load, unload, move, and deploy with ruggedly packed equipment.
