Job Description:

The Director of Member Growth and Engagement is a results-driven leader responsible for driving AOPA's membership growth and strengthening early-stage engagement. This position is responsible for designing and executing high-impact marketing campaigns, optimizing lead generation and conversion, and developing scalable processes that support sustainable membership growth. Success in this role requires a strong background in lifecycle marketing, campaign strategy, performance marketing, direct response tactics, and cross-functional collaboration and demands a data-driven mindset, creative fluency, and the ability to lead cross-functional teams toward ambitious growth goals. 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: 

  • Campaign Strategy and Execution:
  • Lead the development, execution, and optimization of multichannel campaigns to drive member acquisition and engagement.
  • Design campaign frameworks that align audience insights, creative assets, and performance goals across the full member lifecycle.
  • Integrate lead generation tactics and conversion optimization into every stage of campaign planning.
  • Guide testing strategies, creative iterations, and offer development to improve outcomes, including direct response approaches that drive immediate action.
  • Manage external agency partners to ensure timely, effective execution of creative and media strategies aligned with campaign goals.
  • Lead Generation and Conversion Optimization:
  • Oversee programs focused on generating qualified leads and moving prospects through the conversion funnel.
  • Work with digital, media, and content teams to refine lead capture and nurture strategies as part of a broader lifecycle marketing approach.
  • Apply direct response techniques to accelerate decision-making and improve campaign ROI.
  • Monitor conversion performance and adjust tactics to maximize results across initial and subsequent member touchpoints.
  • Process Development and Improvement:
  • Build and document repeatable campaign development workflows and marketing processes.
  • Identify operational inefficiencies and implement solutions to streamline execution and optimize lifecycle communication.
  • Establish clear handoffs, timelines, and reporting cadences across teams to support the consistent execution of direct response and lifecycle campaigns. 

Team Leadership:

  • Develop a high-performing team responsible for growth-focused marketing initiatives.
  • Foster a results-driven environment that values creativity, accountability, and continuous learning.

Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Define and monitor KPIs tied to lead volume, conversion rates, campaign ROI, and member lifecycle value.
  • Use analytics to evaluate performance, identify growth opportunities, and support strategic decisions.
  • Present actionable insights to senior leadership and key stakeholders, including those related to the impact of direct response and lifecycle efforts.

Cross-Functional Collaboration:

  • Work closely with marketing, analytics, creative, product, and customer service teams to align messaging and member touchpoints.
  • Ensure campaign execution supports both short-term conversion goals and long-term lifecycle engagement. 

Member Experience Strategy: 

  • Shape initial member experiences that drive satisfaction, trust, and advocacy.
  • Use behavioral data and member feedback to refine onboarding and early engagement touchpoints, supporting a seamless lifecycle journey. 

Budget and Resource Management:

  • Develop and manage budgets, ensuring effective allocation of resources to maximize growth.
  • Prioritize initiatives based on strategic impact and measurable performance.

Job Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in marketing, Business, or a related field.
  • 10+ years in marketing, growth, or acquisition roles.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience, including people and process management.
  • Demonstrated success in campaign development, lead generation, conversion, lifecycle marketing, and direct response strategy.
  • Experience with marketing operations, process improvement, and performance analysis. 

Knowledge, skills, and abilities:  

  • Deep understanding of audience segmentation, funnel metrics, lifecycle marketing strategy, and campaign design.
  • Strong analytical mindset with proficiency in marketing performance tools.
  • Excellent project management and organizational skills.
  • Collaborative team leader and cross-functional communicator.
  • Proficient in CRM systems, marketing automation, and analytics platforms. 

PREFERRED JOB QUALIFICATIONS:  

  • Master’s degree
  • Experience in subscription or member-driven engagement models 
  • Familiarity with general aviation and aviation-related industries 

WORKING CONDITIONS:  

This position works in an office setting environment.

Typical working hours are 8:30 am – 5 pm, Monday through Friday, with an hour lunch break. 

Generally, a climate-controlled environment with occasional exposure to outdoor weather conditions when attending aviation related events, including exposure to higher altitudes and confined spaces if in a general aviation aircraft. 

This position requires some travel, possibly up to 10% of the time, to various general aviation or industry-related events. Travel is by aircraft (general aviation and commercial) and by road or public transit.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:  

The physical demands of the position are typical of a standard office environment. While performing the duties of this job, the employee will regularly be required to: 

  • Sit for extended periods while working at a computer or attending meetings.
  • Use hands and fingers to operate a computer keyboard, mouse, and other office equipment
  • Communicate effectively via email, phone, chat, video, and in-person, which requires clear speech, hearing, and vision.
  • Occasionally lift or move items weighing up to 15 pounds, such as boxes of materials or equipment.
  • Occasionally stand, walk, and reach with hands and arms during the course of normal office activities.
