Job Summary

The Senior Vice President (SVP) of Maintenance provides strategic leadership and oversight of all aircraft maintenance functions across the organization. This role ensures maintenance programs comply with federal regulations, meet internal safety standards, and support operational readiness for emergency air medical transport. The SVP leads a multi-site team—including maintenance directors, quality assurance, and technical operations staff—to ensure fleet availability and safety.

The SVP of Maintenance has overall ownership of Part 135 and Part 145 maintenance operations, a complex department spanning both corporate and field functions within the Air Medical Services division. This role directs strategic initiatives, oversees daily KPIs, and manages heavy maintenance performance. It also carries accountability for decisions that significantly affect the division’s short- and long-term success, particularly through maintenance spending and cost control.

  • In-depth understanding of the strategic company plan through collaboration, alignment of goals, objectives and work performance
  • Proactive strategy development for a functional discipline / strategic development of long term policy
  • Accountable for and leads the development, implementation and success of functional or departmental strategic initiatives
  • Accountable for P&L for the Maintenance Departments
  • Autonomy to act and make decisions within financially guidelines and / or company policy

Essential Functions and Responsibilities include the following.

  • Provide executive oversight and direction for aircraft maintenance operations across all bases and facilities.
  • Develop and enforce policies and procedures that ensure maintenance practices are compliant with FAA regulations (FAR Part 135, Part 145), OEM requirements, and internal standards.
  • Lead long-term planning for maintenance capabilities, including fleet lifecycle planning, parts procurement, and personnel development.
  • Ensure the organization maintains proper certifications, licenses, and documentation in accordance with federal and state regulations.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align maintenance strategy with organizational goals, operational requirements, and risk tolerance.
  • Oversee budgeting and cost controls related to maintenance, including labor, parts, and vendor agreements.
  • Implement and monitor performance metrics for fleet reliability, turnaround time, and maintenance-related delays or incidents.
  • Direct response efforts in the event of safety issues, incidents, or audit findings related to maintenance operations.
  • Support development and execution of internal audits, FAA inspections, and other regulatory or third-party reviews.
  • Ensure effective communication and coordination between maintenance, flight operations, dispatch, and safety departments.
  • Develop succession plans and training programs to support technician development, certification, and retention.
  • Other Duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Directly supervises in Maintenance Operations. Carries out Supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, selecting, hiring, and training employees, planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance, rewarding and disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving problems. For Exempt Managers: Managers that carry out these responsibilities for two or more employees will have significant input in hiring and termination decisions.

Qualifications

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university; and fifteen or more years’ related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Master’s Degree in Business (MBA) preferred.
  • Experience in the air medical, EMS, or other emergency response aviation sectors preferred.
  • In-depth knowledge of FAA regulations and requirements for Part 135 and/or Part 145 operations.
  • Highly experienced in both tactical and strategic business objectives.
  • Demonstrated experience managing multi-site maintenance operations for rotor-wing and/or fixed-wing aircraft.
  • In-depth understanding of the area of responsibility to contribute to a wider range of business issues.
  • Proven ability to lead teams in high-stakes, time-critical environments.
  • Experience with budgeting, vendor management, and capital planning for fleet maintenance.

Computer Skills

  • Strong understanding of aviation safety management systems (SMS), maintenance tracking systems, and quality assurance programs.
  • Familiarity with ERP systems and digital maintenance tracking tools (e.g., CAMP, Traxxall, Ramco).
  • Advanced Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

  • FAA Airframe and Powerplant Certification required
