MV-22, Flight Line, (Aircraft Mechanic II)

- The Flight Line Aircraft Mechanic I may supervise lower skilled mechanics and assist with troubleshooting malfunctions in aircraft structure, landing gear, flight surfaces and controls, anti-icing, pneudraulic, engines, and auxiliary power unit for MV-22 aircraft.
- This mechanic repairs, replaces, and rebuilds aircraft structures, such as wings and fuselage, and functional components including rigging, surface controls, and plumbing and hydraulic units, using hand tools, power tools, machines, and equipment.
- The MV-22 mechanic is responsible for inspecting and maintaining tilt-rotor airframes and airframe components and performs duties relating to flight line operation.
- This worker reads and interprets manufacturers' maintenance manuals, service bulletins, technical data, engineering data, and other specifications to determine feasibility and method of repairing or replacing malfunctioning or damaged components.
- Replaces or repairs worn or damaged components, fuel controls, fuel pumps, oil pumps, and engine mounted gearboxes, and compressor bleed valves using hand tools, gauges, and testing equipment; removes engine from aircraft, disassembles and inspects parts for wear, cracks, security, or other defects, and repairs or replaces defective engine parts and reassembles and installs engine in aircraft.
- Uses standard aircraft handling and taxi procedures in accordance with (IAW) Naval Aviation Training and Operating Procedures Standardization (NATOPS), specific aircraft manuals, and local regulations, to support the host squadron.
- Launches aircraft IAW published flight schedules or as needed to support emergencies.
- Performs Recovery (pre-positioning support equipment and aircraft directing), including hot brake checks, post flight servicing, static grounding (aircraft to ground) and chocks.
- Performs acceptance, conditional, daily, phase, pre D-Level, post D-Level, special, transfer, turnaround and zonal aircraft inspections and preoperational and periodic inspections on SE IAW Maintenance Requirements Cards (MRC) and NAVAIR technical manuals.
- Pre/Post-Op checks, fueling and operation of SE, tools, Individual Material Readiness List (IMRL) and Naval Aviation Metrology and Calibration (METCAL) assigned to the Power Line work center, to include conditional/scheduled inspections and periodic maintenance.
- Performs all duties in accordance with the Naval Aviation Maintenance Program (NAMP) and Commander Naval Air Forces Instruction 4790.2B.
- Job duties require that this mechanic: adjusts, repairs, or replaces electrical wiring system and aircraft accessories, conduct maintenance inspections, and perform miscellaneous duties to service aircraft.
- This incumbent assists with the jacking and towing of aircraft, enters in the maintenance records description of the work performed and verifies the work was performed satisfactorily, required to keep aircraft in safe operating condition.
- Performs duties of a Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) and ensures all maintenance is performed and inspected in accordance with the NAMP.
- May be required to work in areas that are noisy, dusty, and dirty.
- May be exposed to moderate discomforts, such as heat, cold and wind.
- This position requires normal physical functions.
- Work may require frequent bending, reaching and climbing. Work may be performed on top or under equipment in cramped or awkward positions.
- May frequently lift and carry items weighing up to fifty pounds and occasionally lift heavier items with the assistance of other workers.
- This individual will be required to comply with all applicable and local safety regulations and policies governing work performed on USMC aircraft.
- Proper work attire must be worn at all times to include safety boots, eye protection, and other Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) determined to be necessary by the government.
- Minimum four (4) years of aviation maintenance and two (2) years of MV-22 specific aviation maintenance experience
- This individual must have held a USMC Military Occupational Specialty (MOS) of 6116 in MV-22 aircraft, specifically as a Tilt-Rotor Crew Chief Technician and have held a Level III certification in the Marine Aviation Training and Education Program (MATMEP).
- Must have also completed the appropriate formal combined "A" and "C" school, V-22 Tilt-rotor Mechanic Course at the Center for Naval Aviation Technical Training (CNATT) MAR Unit, MCAS New River, NC.
- In addition, must have completed the MV-22 Plane Captain (PC) Ground Syllabus Familiarization.
- Must be knowledgeable of ANSI/ISO/ASQ Q9001-2000 quality management systems requirements.
- Must possess, and maintain, a minimum of SECRET clearance.
- Must be able to receive and maintain Collateral Duty Inspector (CDI) qualifications certification in accordance with the NAMP.
- Must possess the ability to work independently, without technical guidance, to perform all tasks outlined in the Interactive Electronic Maintenance Manual (IETM), and possess thorough understanding of NALCOMIS maintenance documentation.
- Must be able to acquire and maintain
- Support Equipment (SE) qualifications and certifications on the equipment identified in Enclosure 1 of the SOW and IAW NAMP.
- Must meet technical proficiency to qualify as a CDI.
- Must be certified to perform tasks specified in the Corporate Standard Operating Procedures Manual if required.
