Job Description:

Non-Destructive Inspection Technician to perform Non-Destructive Inspections (NDI) using approved practices and using precision measuring equipment.  Assists engineering with acceptable criteria for evaluating defective areas and coordinating necessary data.   Inspect work that has been done in order to assess aircraft structures and components to determine results accurately.  NDI operations include using Eddy Current, Ultrasonics, Magnetic Particle, and Liquid Penetrant using approved manufacturer’s data.  Maintains and updates aircraft records with the details and results of NDI testing performed. 

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs Non-Destructive Inspections of aircraft structures, engines, components, and support equipment with specialized equipment as required for the detection of faults or defects using Eddy Current (ET), Liquid Penetrant (PT), Magnetic Particle (MT) and Ultrasonics (UT) per customer and industry standards, manufacturer’s manuals, schematics, company instructions, and other approved data.
  • Provides technical expertise to resolve questions concerning serviceability and/or repair procedures.    
  • Utilizes manufacturer’s maintenance manuals, service bulletins, Maintenance Engineering Directives, Maintenance Requirement Cards, Technical Directives, schematics, drawings, blueprints, charts, and other applicable data/publications to perform Non-Destructive Inspections of aircraft structures, engines, components, and support equipment.
  • Comply with and follow established workmanship, safety, quality, and production standards.   
  • May be required to perform collateral duty inspection assignments.
  • Completes and/or assists in completing applicable maintenance forms as required.

  • Required to obtain an airfield license and a Golf Cart. Operates ground support equipment as required. 
  • Ensures compliance with all applicable programs, including Safety, foreign object
  • damage (FOD), Hazardous Communications, Corrosion Control, and Tool Control. 
  • Provides technical assistance, guidance, and instruction as required for the training of employees in the same or lesser classifications.  Demonstrates job procedures, safe practices, and conducts on-the-job training. 
  • Ensures the safety, security, and preservation of government-owned and company-owned equipment.
  • Proper maintenance of shop equipment, including periodic checks and scheduled calibrations, is adhered to, and current records are maintained.
  • Proper handling and storage of all components in the work center, including proper preservation of components when repair is completed, are also ensured. 
  • Works harmoniously with other employees, promoting teamwork and cooperation. 
  • Deals with the customer courteously, professionally, and effectively.
  • Ensures the proper maintenance and cleanliness of assigned spaces and facilities.
  • Performs other duties as required.

CLASSIFICATION QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE:

Possesses a high degree of knowledge/expertise in aircraft maintenance, including knowledge of and experience on T-6 or similar aircraft. Must have an in-depth knowledge of applicable technical manuals, service bulletins, maintenance manuals, blueprints, maintenance forms, and continuous inspection procedures. Ability to organize and plan work, adhering to deadlines; attention to detail and mathematical skills.  Must be able to read, write, understand, and communicate the English language and to follow and administer verbal and written instructions. Requires the ability to work without direct supervision. Must have a strong background in Non-Destructive Inspection.  

EDUCATION / LICENSES:

Satisfactory completion of U.S. Armed Forces Aircraft Non-Destructive Inspection Courses, or equivalent.  F.A.A. Airframe and Power Plant license preferred but not required. Graduation from high school or GED required. Must be able to meet any Government / Company licensing/qualification requirements for the position. 

EXPERIENCE:

Must have a minimum of three (3) years of experience as a Non-Destructive Inspector and be Level 2 qualified per NAS 410 guidelines in Penetrant, Magnetic Particle, Eddy Current, and Ultrasonics.  Must be familiar with aircraft systems, tools, drawings, schematics, and normal safety requirements.  Must have experience in corrosion detection, treatment, and prevention. 

EQUIPMENT OPERATED:

Aircraft test equipment, hand tools, and other associated shop equipment.

PHYSICAL EFFORT:

Requires sitting, standing, and walking for extended periods of time.  Requires frequent bending, stooping, squatting, crouching, kneeling, balancing, and reaching above shoulder level.  Requires occasional crawling, climbing, lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 

weight up to 70 pounds.  Requires eye-hand coordination and manual dexterity.  Must 
have close vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Requires hearing to normal range.  May require the use of a respirator. 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

Requires shift work and a diversity of working conditions that range from a standard shop type environment, where there may be no physical discomfort, to an environment where inclement weather may subject individual to severe changes in temperature, wind, rain, etc. May be required to work in areas where high noise hazards are prevalent and Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight line. Will be required to work with hazardous materials.  

POTENTIAL HAZARDS:

Exposure to high intensity noise levels, extreme changes in temperatures, materials identified on Safety Data Sheets, working at heights on or around aircraft, and machinery. Exposure to hazards associated with the use of hazardous materials, working in the vicinity of protruding components such as propellers, exhaust stacks, static wicks, flaps, doors, antennas, etc. 

WORK LOCATION: 

  

Aircraft maintenance shops, hangars, and flight lines.  May require travel in support of cross-country rescue and detachments of unknown duration.
