Qualifications
To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-G, FG/GS-9/11 in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. One year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade level that demonstrated knowledge and skill in the use of Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) air traffic control procedures. Qualifying specialized experience may have been gained in work such as:
Qualifying SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE may have been gained in work such as:
- Civilian or military aircraft operations work, such as flight instructor, instrument rated pilot, flight engineer, or air transport pilot;
- FAA certified dispatcher for an air carrier;
- Flight information expediter involved in determining flight times of airplanes and transmitting information to flight operations and command centers;
- Civilian or military air traffic controller;
- Flight data processor;
OR
Training: Successful completion of an FAA or military air traffic control training program;
OR
Certificate: Possession of an FAA Control Tower Operator certificate.
Candidates will be evaluated on four "Managerial Selection Factors".
Managerial Selection Factors: Candidates must provide separate narrative responses to address his/her experience in MWP Selection Factors 1 through 4. In the text box following each Leadership and Management Dimensions, please provide a brief explanation of your possession of the applicable Leadership and Management Dimension. Include the name, title, organization name, and phone number of at least one reference that can be contacted for further verification of your level of capability.
Applicants who fail to address the Leadership and Management Dimensions on-line will be disqualified.
Eligible candidates will be evaluated based on Human Resource Policy Manual (HRPM), Volume 1: Employment Policy Chapter EMP-1.39.

This position is covered by the Department of Transportation's Drug and Alcohol Testing Program. Any applicant tentatively selected for this position will be subject to pre-employment or pre-appointment drug screening. Persons occupying a "testing designated position (TDP)" will be subject to random drug and/or alcohol testing.
Training Requirements as a Condition of Employment:All persons appointed to Air Traffic Assistance positions are required to successfully complete a training program to gain specific job knowledge. Those failing to complete the program successfully may be separated, demoted, or reassigned.
Supervisory/Managerial Probationary Period Requirement: A one-year supervisory/managerial probationary period may be required.
Interviews: Some, all or none of the candidates may be interviewed.
Security Requirement: This position requires completion and favorable adjudication of a top secret security clearance.
