Job Description:
  • NorthPoint Aviation is seeking an Aircraft Avionics Department Manager to join our professional trained general aircraft maintenance team in our FAA approved Part 145 Repair Station.
  • NorthPoint Aviation is a full-service fixed base operation (FBO), providing aircraft fuel sales, aircraft sales & acquisition, light & heavy aircraft maintenance, avionics repair & installation, aircraft management services, flight training & aircraft rental, scenic flights and aircraft line services.
  • NorthPoint Aviation's FAA Approved Part 145 Repair Station is authorized to perform maintenance on all aircraft manufactured under 12,500 pounds gross weight and is also a Cirrus Aircraft and Textron Single Engine Piston Service Center.

Job Requirements:
  • Reporting to the General Manager, your primary responsibility will be directing the avionics team in the troubleshooting, repair and installation of avionics (communication and navigational equipment) of General and Corporate Aviation aircraft.
  • Lead Avionics Technician team by continually demonstrating proper aircraft avionics installation and repair techniques on aircraft being maintained within NorthPoint Aviation’s maintenance facility on a daily basis.
  • Ensure all NorthPoint Aviation Avionics Technicians are properly certified, trained, and supervised according to current FARs and NorthPoint Aviation’s FAA Part 145 Repair Station Procedures.
  • Provide customers with technical support and customer service on a daily basis including current avionics system installation and/or repair status of their aircraft, forecast of downtimes to facilitate scheduling, and ensure timely deferral or correction of their aircraft's avionics discrepancies.
  • Perform maintenance /repairs on all aircraft avionics components and electrical systems components, such as airborne navigation and communication systems, autopilot systems, weather radar, transponder, pitot static systems, compass systems, instruments and accessories.
  • Must be proficient with avionics system testing and maintenance equipment and be able to test and troubleshoot instruments, components, and assemblies, using circuit testers, oscilloscopes and voltmeters.
  • Must be able to perform all avionics functions unsupervised, at any time.  Maintain a clean and neat work area and assist with other housekeeping duties as assigned.
  • Must be able to read and understand maintenance manuals, parts manuals and wiring schematics.
  • Must have a minimum, basic knowledge and experience with general computer applications. (i.e., Microsoft, Word, Excel, Power Point, Outlook, etc.)
  • Advanced knowledge of wire harness fabrication, pitot static, RVSM systems testing and repair is required.
  • Must be able to maintain repair station records and documents as required.
  • Promote a team atmosphere by closely working together with all other NorthPoint Aviation’s departments, aircraft manufacturer's representatives, part's suppliers, FAA-approved repair stations, FAA representatives and sub-contractors.
  • Evaluate and make recommendations to the General Manager about Avionics Department equipment, tooling and technical data needs.
  • Demonstrate a visible commitment to employee and client well-being while promoting a safety culture within the Avionics Department.
  • Perform necessary functions for hiring, evaluating and terminating Avionics Technician personnel.
  • Work closely with Marketing Manager in developing advertising and marketing material for the Avionics Department.
  • Must be reliable, self-motivated and promote a positive, professional image for NorthPoint Aviation.
  • Perform other activities and projects as approved by the General Manager.
Additional Job Requirements and Qualifications:
  • Must have at least five years of hands-on General Aviation Avionics Equipment Installation, troubleshooting and repair experience working with piston single and twin-engine aircraft as well as turbo propeller and small corporate jet aircraft.  (FCC License Preferred)
  • Excellent oral/written communication skills and above-average computer skills and proficiency.  (i.e., Microsoft, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.)
  • Must be familiar with and be able to read and understand manufacturer's maintenance manuals, Service Bulletins & Letters, FAA Airworthiness Directives and FAA Regulations & Policies.

Education and/or Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints, schematics and coordinate work with that of avionics technicians, and other aircraft maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to set up and operate ground support and test equipment to perform simulated functional flight tests of electrical and electronic systems.
  • Must be able to lift at least 50 pounds and be able to perform moderately strenuous physical tasks which include bending, stooping, kneeling and working overhead for long periods of time.
  • Previous experience with the following manufacturers required: Garmin, Honeywell (Bendix/King), L-3, Aspen, Avidyne, PS Engineering, JPI Instruments and/or Genesys Systems (S-Tec).
  • Ability to operate computer-aided drafting and design applications to design avionics system modifications is a plus.
  • FAA A&P mechanic a Plus.
  • Must be able to pass a background check, drug test, employment verification, and I9/E-Verify
