We are seeking a proactive and knowledgeable Site Safety Specialist to support a facilities operations and maintenance services contract overseeing critical infrastructure. This role is essential in ensuring compliance with safety, health, and environmental standards while fostering a culture of safety across all levels of the organization.
Responsibilities
- Serve as the on-site Safety Specialist, supporting both site-specific and companywide safety programs.
- Partner with shop supervisors and project personnel to promote a safe working environment.
- Lead or participate in incident investigations, supporting leadership accountability for safety outcomes.
- Administer and track performance metrics and conduct incident investigations with root cause analysis.
- Conduct audits, identify hazards, and recommend facilities or process improvements to enhance safety.
- Promote employee engagement through visible leadership, safety communications, and hands-on participation in safety initiatives.
- Act as a resource for safety training, data analysis, and document control.
- Conduct risk assessments and recommend appropriate PPE and mitigation strategies.
- Understand and apply protocols specific to CBA employees and various skilled trades.
- Maintain familiarity with Redstone Arsenal procedures and safety requirements.
- Perform regular inspections to ensure compliance with health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards; document findings and implement corrective actions.
- Review and manage subcontractor safety plans and ensure alignment with company and regulatory standards.
- Generate and submit HSE reports and metrics as required by management or regulatory bodies.
- Strong interpersonal/communication skills as the position involves interfacing with customers and on-site personnel. Candidate must be experienced in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, in particular Microsoft PowerPoint, Word, and excel for presentations, reports and other uses.
- Support the development and delivery of basic safety training and new-hire employee safety orientations.
- Help prepare and conduct regular safety toolbox talks or other brief safety meetings.
- Review job hazard analysis and advise personnel on need for and proper use of personal protective equipment
- Be a general resource in one or more safety subject areas such as facility life safety, fall protection, PPE / JHA, LOTO, confined space, construction, hot work, etc
- Ability to apply and interpret Federal OSHA regulations and other standards (Building Code, National Electric Code, National Fire Protection Association), and have good oral and written communication skills
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- At least 3-5 years of experience in safety, health, and environmental programs.
- Strong knowledge of federal and state safety regulations.
- Strong communication skills, with the ability to interact across all levels of the organization.
- Detail-oriented with a strong focus on documentation, organization, and consistent execution.
- Solid working knowledge of OSHA regulations, safety standards, and compliance requirements
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- comfortable delivering training to diverse audiences.
- Proficiency with electronic safety systems and applications.
- Proficiency with EXCEL, WORD and other Microsoft Office Suite programs.
- Familiarity with AR 385-10 and other Department of the Army safety regulations.
- Knowledge of confined space entry, NFPA 70E, Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and other safety. programs.
Desired Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Safety, Environmental Science, or a related field.
- BCSP Desired.
Physical Demands & Working Environment:
- Work is primarily conducted in office or shop environments, with occasional outdoor work in varying weather conditions.
- Physical requirements include lifting up to 50 lbs., stooping, climbing, prolonged standing/sitting, and working in potentially hazardous environments.
- Must be able to distinguish colors and communicate effectively via verbal, written, and electronic means.
- Use of personal protective equipment (PPE) is required in designated areas.
- Must be in excellent physical condition and comply with all applicable safety regulations and company policies.
