Helicopter Pilot

The Helicopter Pilot will be responsible for the safe and efficient operations of powerline inspections, pipeline surveys, and general survey work. The position will ensure the flight is conducted in the safest manner possible. The Helicopter Pilot is expected to operate a single-engine turbine-powered helicopter as a pilot in command at minimum airspeeds and low-level altitudes involving flight operations within wired environment. The Helicopter Pilot will report to the Rotorcraft Chief Pilot.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • With an expert level and skill, safely operate a single-engine turbine-powered helicopter as pilot in command at minimum airspeeds and low-level altitudes involving flight operations within the wire environment
  • Safely hover and land on unfavorable terrain near transmission lines, trees and other obstacles
  • Conducts helicopter flight operations ensuring the safety of passengers, qualified crewmembers, and mission.
  • Performs helicopter preflight inspection and determination of air worthiness
  • Ensures compliance with applicable Federal Aviation Regulations
  • Expert knowledge of all sections of specific Rotorcraft Flight Manuals
  • Maintains situational awareness and utilize crew resource management
  • Comply with FAA Regulations, Company Operations Manual(s) and any state, municipal and any domestic or foreign government regulations that may apply.
  • Operate aircraft in a safe and efficient manner, with emphasis on compliance with the appropriate Rotorcraft Flight Manual.
  • Work with customers to provide courteous, efficient, reliable, and safe service.
  • Submit all appropriate paperwork in a neat and timely manner.
  • Accept duty only when in compliance with flight and duty time regulations and maintain a rested and medically fit condition.
  • Maintain a logbook or other reliable record in accordance with FAR 61.51 to show recent flight experience requirements.
  • Complete ongoing pilot training
  • Responsible for keeping all certificates current: pilot, medical, flight instructor if applicable, ratings, etc.
  • Responsible for the overall safety of his passengers and crew.
  • Accept responsibility for checking aircraft, preflight, post flight and briefing of all crew members daily.
  • Perform related duties as assigned
Job Requirements:

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Must have thorough knowledge and understanding of all Company Policies and procedures and applicable FAA Regulations, Operating Certificate, and Operations Specifications.
  • Ability to make proper aeronautical decision making (Weather, external factors, environment)
  • Experience operating in mountainous terrain.
  • Ability to navigate and communicate in and around Class B, C, and D airspaces.
  • Ability to use “Electronic Flight Bags” (iPad and foreflight)
  • Ability to follow lateral and vertical flight profiles with 100’ tolerances.
  • Ability to operate for 6-8 hours of flight time per day.

Education and Experience:

  • FAA Commercial Pilot Cert, Instrument Rotorcraft
  • Current Class II Medical
  • 1,500 hours Helicopter P.I.C
  • 1,000 hours turbine helicopter P.I.C.
  • Power line experience
  • Part 135 experience
  • Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) is preferred
  • Bell 407 experience preferred
  • Bell 206 experience preferred

Physical Requirements:

  • In the work environment the employee regularly works in outside weather conditions such as wet, humid conditions, ambient air, extreme temperatures, fumes or airborne particles, traffic, toxic or caustic chemicals, risk of electrical shock, and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is usually high.
  • Prolonged periods of sitting in a helicopter
  • 20/20 vision
  • Able to use hands and fingers to operate flight controls
  • Ability to maintain focus and situational awareness
  • Ability to lift up to 75 lbs.

Job Type/Class: Non-Exempt, Full-time

Location: 14 on/14 off Traveling

Required travel: 90% (Preferred)

Salary Range: 75,000-95,000
