Our Rolling Meadows Systems Engineering Integration & Test (SEIT) organization provides complex avionics systems in Targeting, EOIR, and RF technology areas. The Targeting organization is offering an excellent opportunity for a Principal Systems Engineer or a Sr. Principal Systems Engineer in the discipline of algorithm development and performance modeling to join our team of highly skilled and diverse professionals.
In this role, you will be responsible for designing, integrating, and testing algorithm solutions, as well as developing and validating complex models and simulations. A primary task for an engineer doing modeling and simulation is software development of in-house system models and algorithms, as well as execution of these models to characterize and analyze system performance. Strong domain knowledge combined with software development skills, critical thinking, and collaboration are required to produce the complex algorithms and models that drive and predict our system performance, respectively. You will collaborate with a highly skilled team of systems engineering technologists to support various contracts and internal research and development efforts. A successful candidate has experience in systems engineering, algorithm design, systems analysis, and software engineering. The candidate should have coding experience and proficiency in software languages such as MATLAB and Python. A successful candidate will also have strong technical writing and communication skills.
This position can be filled at the Principal Algorithm & Modeling Engineer or Sr. Principal Algorithm & Modeling Engineer level based on specific requirements.
This position will be full-time, on-site at our Rolling Meadows, IL location.
This position is contingent upon Funding/Contract award, special access program and acquiring and maintaining the necessary US Government security clearance per customers requirements prior to start.
Basic Qualifications for Principal Algorithm & Modeling Engineer:
BS degree in STEM field with 5+ years related experience, MS degree in STEM field with 3+ years of related experience, or PhD in STEM field with 1+ years of related experience.
Experience as a Systems Engineer learning and applying some of the skills mentioned above for Modeling & Simulation
Demonstrated proficiency in analytical thinking and problem-solving skills and a Systems thinking mindset
Written and verbal communication skills, capable of creating and delivering briefings and status reports
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work collaboratively in an integrated product team (IPT) across multiple functional disciplines
Proficiency in MATLAB, Python, or C/C++
Ability to obtain and maintain a minimum of a Secret Clearance with additional customer specified clearance prior to start

Preferred Qualifications:
Working knowledge of one or more of the following specialty areas of Targeting and EOIR/RF systems: sensors/antennas, transmitters/receivers, optics, detection and tracking
Proficiency in additional coding languages, such as CUDA, SysML, VHDL, OpenCL, or other scripting languages
Experience in qualitative assessment and analysis of complex algorithms
Experience with Design of Experiments (DOE) methodology
Experience working as part of an Agile team, familiarity with Jira is a plus
Self-starter who is detail-oriented, well-organized, and able to prioritize and complete tasks within a dynamic environment
Active Secret or Top Secret security clearance
Primary Level Salary Range: $105,400.00 - $158,000.00
Secondary Level Salary Range: $131,100.00 - $196,700.00
The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidates experience, education, skills and current spanet conditions.
Depending on the position, employees may be eligible for overtime, shift differential, and a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
