Overview:
A Structures Mechanic (also known as Sheet Metal Mechanic, Airframe Structures Technician, or Structural Repair Technician) is responsible for inspecting, repairing, fabricating, and modifying aircraft structural components — both primary (wings, fuselage, empennage) and secondary (doors, panels, fairings).
Responsibilities:
- Perform aircraft sheet metal fabrication, repair, and installation with a strong focus on precision and quality.
- Interpret and apply information from blueprints, structural repair manuals (SRMs), and technical drawings to complete assigned tasks.
- Utilize knowledge of aircraft materials, fasteners, and structural assemblies to perform effective repairs.
- Execute layout, measurement, and marking operations with accuracy using precision tools.
- Conduct inspections, repairs, and replacements on aircraft structural components such as skins, floor beams, bulkheads, and landing gear fittings in compliance with FAA regulations and maintenance procedures.
- Plan and carry out the fabrication, assembly, and installation of sheet metal components, applying advanced techniques in forming, trimming, drilling, and riveting.
- Select proper materials and gauges (aluminum, stainless steel, titanium, composites, etc.) according to engineering specifications.
- Accurately mark dimensions and reference points using layout tools and shop math principles to ensure proper fit and alignment.
- Maintain proper documentation and tagging for all removed or repaired components in accordance with company and FAA requirements.
- Adhere to safety, quality, and housekeeping standards in all phases of work.
Qualifications & Experience:
- Ability to read, write, and follow English-language technical instructions.
- FAA Airframe License (A) preferred; valid driver’s license required.
- 10–15 years of aircraft structures experience strongly preferred.
- Hands-on experience with Boeing 737, 747, 767, and Airbus A330/A340 aircraft is a plus.
- Must successfully complete a pre-employment drug test and background screening.
- Must possess a complete set of personal tools appropriate for structural work.
- Bilingual in Spanish is a plus.
Pay/Schedule:
- Hourly based on experience
- Per diem split to those that qualify.
- M-F 6:30-3:00
