PURPOSE:
Under limited supervision, performs a wide range of Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) or also known as (TIG) and brazing operations primarily in the repair of a wide variety of product castings, or various metals and alloys requiring the ability to pass required certification test, and operate own rote tooling.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
- Works from shop orders, specifications and other instructions as to rod type and amount of weld to be applied.
- Plans operation sequence to preheat parts, clean and prepare area, apply and finish weld to repair cracks, non- fills, pit spans, slag holes or other defects, or to apply metal for machining operations.
- Selects and sets currents, determines rod size, selects electrode, and determines other variables according to individual job requirements.
- Exercises care to obtain proper penetration; avoid burring, slag inclusion or other flaws. Some alloying of metals involved to obtain proper material strength.
- Disposes of work as required.
- As required, instructs others in techniques.
- Operates rote tooling to smooth and finish castings.
- Maintains all required records and reports of work performed.
- Complies with written or verbal instructions or orders of supervisor or designated representative.
- Detects and reports improper operation, defective materials and unusual conditions to proper supervision.
- Maintains work area and equipment in a clean and orderly condition. Follows prescribed safety regulations.
- Performs a variety of other tasks of equal or lesser complexity as assigned by supervisor.
SPECIAL SKILLS
- Requires the use of considerable judgment to plan and perform highly diversified and intricate welding on a wide range of alloys and geometries to the extent of re-constructing castings and sections thereof
- Concentration and exacting mental and visual attention in performing very involved and, at times, complex work in repairing and/or reconstruction castings.

- Work must be performed on the manufacturing floor in a weld booth
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is required to sit or stand leaning over and welding in a gas-controlled weld station 90 of the time.
- During the workday the incumbent employee will be inside.
- The employee will frequently lift and carry manufacturing parts up to 35 lbs.
- Employee may use computer systems to track work and updating timecards.
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to use hands and fingers to handle or feel objects, touch and use welding tools, reach with hands and arms, bend stoop, twist, and walk during the course of employment.
- Vison and depth perception and ability to adjust focus.
REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS:
Reports directly to the Finishing supervisor.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Requires the use of complicated drawings, specifications and handbook information. Person must be able to pass customer and/or government agency tests to acquire certification. Must have some understanding of metallurgy and heat treating.
- 6 months GTAW/TIG experience
- Experience working with Nickel and Copper based alloys
- Over 5 years’ experience preferred

For informational purposes only, the range of pay for this role is $19.00/hr. to $29.00/hr. US Dollar (USD) Hourly based on a variety of factors. For informational purposes only, this role is eligible to participate in the Company’s Quarterly Cash Bonus Plan, paid out at the quarterly bonus factor of 1X the Company’s bonus multiple, based on the Company’s performance in the applicable quarter. Employees will receive 80 hours paid time off every year. Employees will also receive 10 paid holidays.
